Pool service software compared, on live pricing
2026-09-04 · 7 min read
Route software is priced two ways: per serviced location, or per technician. Which is cheaper depends entirely on how many pools each of your techs covers — and that single question decides more than any feature list.
Best overall

The real question
Pools per tech. It flips which pricing model is cheaper.
Per location versus per tech
A one-person route with 60 pools pays for 60 locations on a per-location plan and for one technician on a per-tech plan. A four-tech business with 240 pools pays for 240 locations or four technicians. Somewhere between those two shapes the cheaper option flips, and it flips at a different point for every business — which is why a feature comparison without your own stop count in front of you is close to useless.
Work out what you would pay under each shape at your actual numbers before you look at a single screenshot. The route value calculator already has your stop count in it.
Skimmer
Priced per serviced location, in two tiers. As read on 2026-09-04, the “Getting Started” tier is $1.00 per serviced location per month, starting at $49 a month and including 49 locations; “Scaling Up” is $2.00 per location per month, starting at $98 and including the same 49. Service texts are listed at $0.029 a message and an AI phone add-on at $99 a month.
The per-location shape means your bill tracks your revenue almost exactly, which is comfortable — and it means a route with many low-value stops pays the same per stop as one with high-value ones.
Paythepoolman
A flat base plus a per-technician fee: the site’s own calculator showed $50.00 a month base and $15.00 a month per tech, totalling $65 for a single-tech business, when read on 2026-09-04. Payment processing is listed separately at $1.50 a transaction, and a customer-facing app at $25 a month.
For a solo operator with a full route this is the cheapest of the three shapes, because the cost does not grow with the number of pools.
Pool Brain
Priced per field technician, with unlimited office users. The pricing calculator on the page renders in the browser, so the numeric fields did not resolve to static text when we read it — the page’s own copy states “$65 per tech” alongside “Provides Access For Unlimited Office Users”. We are reporting exactly what the page said rather than interpolating a figure.
What to test in a trial
Not the dashboard. Test the three things that cost you money: how fast a tech can log a full chemistry reading on a phone with wet hands, whether the invoice it produces looks like something you would send (compare it to the invoice template), and how the software handles a stop that could not be completed. Everything else is marketing.
Buying checklist
- Count your pools per technician before comparing any price.
- Confirm current pricing on the vendor's page — these figures are dated 2026-09-04.
- Ask what happens to your data if you leave.
- Test chemistry logging on a phone, outdoors, with one hand.
- Check payment processing fees separately from the subscription.
